Kankakee, IL: On Wednesday, September 14th, 2022 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, Still I Rise nonprofit organization will have its Free Food Giveaway and looks to distribute food to nearly 400 families in the community. The organization will be giving away whole chickens, shrimp, rice, large boxes of fresh produce and more to help ensure families in need will have nourishing meals.
The Free Food Giveaway will take place on Wednesday, September 14th, 2022 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at the Kankakee Farmers Market parking lot (250 South Schuyler Avenue - on the corner of South Schuyler and Station Street).
To make this event possible, Still I Rise has partnered with Humana, the American Diabetes Association and facilitated the event with Top Box Foods. Still I Rise is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and is spearheaded by Kankakee native Tocarra Eldridge-Robinson, founder and executive director. This Kankakee-based organization was founded in October 2014 to help empower low-income and underprivileged youth and young adults to create a positive and healthy change in society. Over the last 8 years, the organization has educated, motivated and fed thousands of youth, along with their families in the Kankakee community and surrounding areas, and has also given away school supplies to over 300 youth annually, along with providing annual health and wellness clinics.
During 2021, Still I Rise received the Kankakee County Chamber of Commerce “Nonprofit of the Year Award,” “NAACP President’s Award” and the “Best of 2022 Kankakee Award”.
